Strindberg is not just Sweden's most famous author. He also was an actor, journalist, scientist, politician and philosopher. But more important, he is also one of the most recognized Swedish artists. Born 22 January 1849 in Stockholm, Sweden. Dead 14 May 1912 in Stockholm. Strindberg painted during three periods: 1. His youth in the 1870s 2. The early 1890s 3. The early 1900s. In 1892, Strindberg finds an own stile. The Stockholm archipelago is an important source of inspiration. The height in his production is 1893-94. In Berlin, Switzerland and Paris, he paints landscapes leading the thoughts to the myths of the creation and destruction of the world. His production includes about 120 works. Among a large number of artist friends he could count Paul Gauguin and Edvard Munch. |
